Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to provide a very short explanation of misophonia to someone in passing conversation? I am going for lunch at someone’s house tomorrow along with some other students, and have briefly said that I am ‘allergic’ to dogs and cats. In fact, I am neurologically ‘allergic’ to the sounds they create and cannot be in the same room as them, but this is not easy to convey at surface-level! I am worried that someone will say ‘so, what is your allergic reaction like?’ and then it would be awkward if I basically said ‘well, I have to run out of the room and start crying’!
Any tips on how to provide a concise and easy-to-understand explanation in this sort of situation?
Thanks!
