I’ve always been sensitive to sounds more than others. Yesterday I read an article about misophonia and I wonder if I have this syndrome. I almost don’t care about chewing or eating noises or music in public places. It bothers me most when i’m with myself trying to concentrate, and especially when other people do it on purpose. For example when people sit behind me (e.g., on a bus or a library) and begin to talk or cough. When I work at the office, sometimes the door across the hall is slammed loudly every few seconds. This also triggers my reaction, though it seems that other people in the workplace are less affected by it. Playing with a pen during exams gets on my nerves, while other people seem willing to let it go.
I’ll appreciate if you have any insights.
Hi Ari
Please could you tell me more about your condition?
What age did you first recall your first incident?
What steps have you taken to contain it?
Thanks
Peter
Hi Peter,
Thx for the reply.
I wouldn’t say there was an “incident”, but little frictions with the people around me.
For example, at work I would use noise cancelling headphones, which really helped.
Best,
Ari
